First International Congress Management of Head and Neck Paragangliomas is an important conference promoted by prof. Mario Sanna and the "Gruppo Otologico" of Piacenza.
Head and neck paragangliomas are slow-growing tumors that often develop over many years as painless lateral masses on the neck. Symptoms are variable and depend on specific locations. Unlike paragangliomas of the adrenal glands, abdomen, and chest, paragangliomas of the head and neck only exceptionally release catecholamines and are therefore not vasoactive.
Paragangliomas of the jugular vein and tympanic cavity can cause hearing loss. For petrous paragangliomas of the head and neck, the Ugo Fisch classification is used.
Carlo Govoni – together with prof. Carlo Zini - wrote the chapter dedicated to these tumors in the Italian Treatise on Surgical Technique in 1989.
The course of the prof. Mario Sanna took place from 20 to 29 September 2023 at Cattolica University Congress Center - Piacenza - Italy.
